When earlier this month Apple announced the iPhone 14 series, it announced a very interesting feature called crash detection. In essence, this feature will be automatically activated in case you find yourself in a car crash. After detecting the crash, the iPhone 14 will automatically begin calling the emergency services and police officials and alert them about the accident and give them a location of the accident. The feature, although niche, can be life saving for those who find themselves in this situation. But the main question is, does it work as claimed? A YouTuber called TechRax decided to find out whether the iPhone 14 crash detection is a "scam" or whether it works well.

YouTuber finds out whether the iPhone 14 Pro crash detection works or not

The YouTuber TechRax posted a 6 minute 27 seconds long video titled ‘Does the iPhone 14 Pro Crash Detection Actually Work? - Car Accident Experiment’. In the video he creates a setup to test how the iPhone 14 Pro reacts in an actual crash scenario. The setup included an old car with the iPhone 14 Pro taped to it and some junked cars for it to crash into. During the video, he tested out the crash detection a number of times to show if the feature really worked.

It should be noted that during the entire video, the car was never driven by anyone. Instead, it was driven remotely. They set it up so that the accelerator can be triggered automatically and the car can keep moving forward without needing a driver. They also shot the entire video in an open field so nobody was around when it was shot.

During the video, at first the car did not really hit the junked cars barrier in front of it as it kept swerving towards the right or left, so the makers added more cars and jammed the steering wheel so it would be forced to go straight. And, there was a spectacular crash and the TechRax video showed that the crash detection feature actually works! The iPhone 14 Pro crash detection feature automatically began calling emergency services.

So, although the test shows that the feature does work, it cannot be said how reliably it will function in a non-controlled real life situation but it should be an encouragement to keep this life-saving feature on when driving or traveling in a car.
