Samsung has had a great year with the Galaxy S22 series models this year and most of it can be attributed to Samsung using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip for most global markets instead of its Exynos chips. It seems that people at Samsung may obviously have cracked the formula to have higher sales figures and hence, it seems the Galaxy S23 series could likely rely on the Snapdragon chips only. No official confirmation has come yet but a Qualcomm executive has hinted that we could be seeing all Snapdragon Galaxy S models next year.

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon revealed that this year, almost 75% of the Galaxy S22 units sold across the world were powered by the Snapdragon chip in the second quarter. He then says that it will only improve for the next year, wherein more Snapdragon powered Galaxy S devices are expected to sell across the world. “[W]e were 75% on Galaxy S22 before the agreement. You should be thinking about we're going to be much better than that on Galaxy S23 and beyond,” said Amon.

Galaxy S23 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 only?

Amon did not hint confirm anything on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 exclusively for the Galaxy S23 series. Additionally, Amon also says that the partnership with Samsung “expands beyond Galaxy smartphones to include Galaxy books, Windows PCs, Galaxy tablets, future extended reality devices and other devices.” Both Samsung and Qualcomm have extended their patent licensing agreement to 2030, covering 3G, 4G, and 5G, and 6G in the future.

Over the years, the difference in Snapdragon and Exynos chips on the Galaxy S devices. The Exynos 2200 was expected to offer greater performance boosts with the new AMD GPU but it was proven otherwise. Moreover, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 itself has issues related to heat and throttling. With the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung is expected to use the more efficient Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. It now remains to be seen whether the new chip makes any difference in terms of overall performance.

Samsung, meanwhile, is rumored to be working on a completely new mobile chipset from scratch, the details of which are scarce at the moment.
