Mobile World Congress 2017 highlights: Nokia 3310 with Snake game launched

HMD Global-promoted will launch the new Nokia phones. The company is expected to launch the new P1, Nokia 8 and the nostalgic Nokia 3310. (HMD)

HMD-Global promoted Nokia launched some new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The company launched the new series 6, 5 and 3. All the phones will run Android Nougat and will come with the Google Assistant. The company is also expected to come out with at least four smartphones which will include the erstwhile Nokia 3310, e series, a new P1 and the global edition of the D6 that was a huge success in China.

9:59 PM: Nokia 3310 reintroduced. It has 22 hours of talktime. 1 month of standby time. It will have the snake game. The new 3310 will come with camera, Bluetooth and an app store. No announcements on price and availability.

9:57 PM: Nokia brings back the Snake game. The game will be available on Facebook Messenger under the games tab. Arto is back on stage.

9:54 PM: The new 3310 is right at the corner. The new 'Connecting People' video is being played.

9:47 PM: Moving to the Nokia 3. The Nokia 3, which will come at a price of €139 euros, has a 5.2-inch display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass. The Nokia 6, 5 and 3 will be available in the second quarter this year. All the phones will come with Android Nougat and Google Assistant.

9:45 PM: The Nokia 5, which will come in five colour options including black, blue, copper and white, has two antennas. The Nokia 5 will retail for €189 euros.

9:44 PM: Nokia 6 will come with 5.5-inch laminated display. In terms of audio, it has Dolby certified speakers in the phone. The global edition will get a new Art Black that will retail for € 299. Nokia is now moving to the 5.2-inch Nokia 5 and the company claims that this is for users who wants a tough form factor.

9:40 PM: Now the executive is talking about the Nokia 6. Nokia 6 is going global after its success in China."76% of people who bought the Nokia 6 in China are youngsters," the executive claimed.

9:38 PM: Nokia devices will be secure and will get monthly updates. The company claims that it has a unique manufacturing process that will enable it to take a leadership position when it comes to design.

9:35 PM: Display, camera and design have been the focus of the new Nokia phones. "Premium designs will not be limited to flagships only," claims the executive. A new UI also on the cards but it might be just a simple Pure Android experience. Nokia smartphones will also come with the Google Assistant.

9:33 PM: "Nokia stands for reliability, human touch, simplicity and ease of use." HMD's chief product officer takes to stage to announce the new phones. Nokia Android phones will be different on three accounts, the company claims.

9:29 PM: Arto Nummela of HMD Global takes to stage. He says that HMD is working with Nokia, Foxconn and Google's Android team to bring out the new Nokia handsets. Nummela recapping the feature phone and the Nokia 6 launches. He says it is just the beginning. "We are aiming to be one of the top handset-makers globally."

9:27 PM: Suri claims that the new Nokia smartphone experience is phenomenal. HMD soon to take to stage to announce the new phones. "I love what they have done...I am sure you will like it too."

9:24 PM: Rajeev Suri is on stage and mobile phones might soon be on the way. Suri is know talking about how Nokia is working on 5G that will push boundaries of the internet.

9:20 PM: Withings trackers will now come with Coach and fitness programmes. Also, a patient care platform is being launched on Withings products. This means that Withings' products will act as connected devices to pass on health information to doctors.

9:18 PM: Nokia now begins with Withings, health and fitness tracker firm. All Withings products will start carrying the Nokia name from this summer.

9:12PM: Nokia now is talking about Virtual Reality and its Ozo camera.

9:07 PM: Brad Rodrigues of Nokia technologies comes to stage to set the tone for the launches.

9:05 PM: Nokia is about to go live. It has been worth the wait and everyone is wondering if Nokia will bring back the 3310? A lot of users are already live but the feed is still off.

Earlier, YouTube channel named ConceptCreator had put out a video which clearly shows how the Nokia P1 could look like when it hits the market. According to the video, the P1 comes with a small home button on the front which might double up as the fingerprint sensor. It also shows that the phone, which consists of a metal frame and glass on both sides but with no bezels, has a Carl Zeiss lens-inbuilt camera unit at the rear with triple flash.

Other dominant features indicate a 3.5-mm headphone jack, USB Type-C charging port and dual stereo speakers. As per leaks, the P1 is expected to feature a 5.3-inch IGZO display and a refreshing rate of 1 to 120 Hz alongside a Corning Gorilla Glass on top. The Nokia P1 is expected to pack Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM. It is expected to run on Android 7.0 Nougat.
