Aadhaar card lost and want it back online? Here is what you need to know. An Aadhaar card carried a 12-digit random number issued to every citizen by the Government of India and it is required for identification purposes everywhere. From opening your account in a bank, sourcing benefits from social service schemes to applying for a job, almsot every official dealing with government and private entities requires an Aadhaar card. But what if you lost your Aadhaar card and you don’t even remember your Aadhaar number (UID)? Don’t worry! You still can retrieve your Aadhaar number online.

The only requirement is that your phone number must be registered at UIDAI, which is linked to your Aadhaar card. Additionally, your mobile number needs to be active with an SMS facility.

How to retrieve your lost Aadhaar card number online

To find your Enrolment number (EID) online or Aadhaar card number, you need to:

1. Go to the UIDAI portal first - https://resident.uidai.gov.in/ in your browser

2. Scroll down to find ‘Aadhaar Services’

3. Click on ‘Retrieve Lost or Forgotten EID/UID’ tab

4. This will lead you to the next page where you have to click ‘Aadhaar No (UID)’

5. Insert your personal details such as name, your registered mobile number or email ID

6.Insert C aptcha on the page.

7 Click on ‘Send OTP’, which will send you a six-digit OTP on your mobile number or Email ID.

8. Enter the six-digit OTP on the portal.

And you are done!

How to get get your Aadhaar card e-copy online

Your Aadhaar number will be sent to your registered mobile number or email. Once you get your 12-digit Aadhaar number, you can print its e-copy also. What you need to do is to visit the UIDAI portal again and click on 'Download Aadhaar' under the 'Get Aadhaar' section. There you can provide your Aadhar number, required Captcha details, and similar to the earlier process you will get an OTP.

Following that, check the 'Terms & Conditions' checkbox at the next page and click on 'submit.' It will ask you to choose one from a registered mobile number and an unregistered mobile number. Once you select the first option, you again have to enter your Aadhar number along with Captcha. To download your e-copy of Aadhar, you need to make payment. After your successful payment, your Aadhar card will be delivered to you.

You must be wondering, what if your mobile number or email ID is not registered with your Aadhaar card. Then you are out of luck and will not be able to get the matter sorted online. However, the solution is very much there, you need to do it offline. You have to visit the nearest Permanent Aadhaar Enrolment centre.
