Barely 24 hours after its launch, Yoga guru Ramdev's instant messaging app 'Kimbho' has mysteriously disappeared from Google Play Store - triggering a flurry of reactions on the social media. However, the app is still available for iPhone and iPad users on the App Store.
The app was unveiled on Wednesday with the tagline 'Ab Bharat Bolega (Now India will speak)' and was touted as the "swadeshi" equivalent of popular messaging app WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook. According to Patanjali spokesperson SK Tijarawala, Kimbho is a Sanskrit word that means "How are you?" or "What's new?".
While Patanjali has not officially communicated the reason for Kimbho's disappearance from Google Play Store, cyber experts had flagged data privacy concerns and termed the messaging app as a 'security disaster'.
Some also pointed out that the app featured an image of Pakistani actor Mawra Hocane. Twitter was flooded by jokes and memes as reports of the app going off Google Play Store started making the rounds. Here are some reactions:
