An Apple Watch rival is likely emerging at Facebook, which has just been renamed as Meta Platforms by its co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. While Apple Watches are some of the priciest ones around and the most coveted because of the plethora of features that they offer, Facebook is looking to get one developed too. Exactly how it will be different from Apple smartwatch is not totally clear, but there will be present a number of new specs and features. Also, not revealed is whether it will have some specific purpose that links it to Zuckerberg's dream project, 'The Metaverse'. 

Leaked images show that the Facebook Watch has a rounded screen and a front-facing camera, just as in a mobile phone, according to Bloomberg. Notably, Apple Watch does not sport a camera. There is a button to control the smartwatch on the right side. The strap appears removable and there is a button on top too.

The leaked image was uncovered in Facebook app that controls Facebook's smartglasses, which were recently revealed in partnership with Ray-Ban.

The image was shared with Bloomberg News by app developer Steve Moser. However, Meta has not commented on the issue.

The similarity with Apple Watch comes from the fact that it has a similar-looking big screen and is not anything near what fitness bands from rivals like Google owned Fitbit look like.

The purpose that the Facebook Watch serves may be different too. It is likely to be used for videoconferencing, according to Bloomberg. Apple Watch is into everything from fitness, well-being to alerts for emergencies.

Will this Facebook Watch be released?

While Facebook has reportedly been working on a smartwatch with a launch date of 2022 in mind, there is no guarantee whether this specific model will ever get produced. However, it does throw light on what Facebook''s intentions are in this gadget segment.

Another surmise from the fact that the image of the Facebook Watch was found on the Facebook View app is that “the watch will be managed on iPhones and Android devices using that app too, says Bloomberg.

There was a code found inside the software  that also indicated the Facebook Watch could be named “Milan.”
