It has barely been five months since Apple launched the Watch Series 6 smartwatch that reports have already started detailing features that will arrive on the Apple Watch Series 7. The latest report talks about a feature that could very easily be the highlight for this year’s premium budget smartwatch by the company.

As per a report by ET News, Apple will introduce blood glucose measurement functionality in the Watch Series 7. The report, which mainly talks about a similar functionality in Samsung’s next-generation premium smartwatch, says that the company has secured the related patent and that it is working on reliability and stability ahead of commercialising this technology.

Now, for those of you who don’t know, blood glucose levels are usually measured by using a single drop of blood in a blood sugar meter. Alternatively, an implanted continuous glucose monitor may be used. This measurement can be used for managing various health conditions such as diabetes.

Now, as per a separate report by MacRumours, Apple has devised a non-invasive method (one that does not involve blood) to measure blood glucose levels. The company has had a team of biomedical engineers and consultants working on sensors that monitor blood glucose levels non-invasively since 2017. Additionally, Apple CEO Tim Cook has also been spotted testing a prototype of the glucose monitor in the past, all of which indicates that the blood glucose sensor could be the next big thing on Apple Watch Series after ECG and blood oxygen measurement functionality.

In addition to this, reports believe that the Apple Watch Series 6 successor is likely to come with a microLED display and solid-state buttons. Beyond that, nothing much is known about the next-generation Apple Watch yet. But we’ll keep an eye out for more details.
