Fitbit Versa 3, Fitbit Sense gets audible Google Assistant responses, SpO2 stats, and more

While Fitbit works on the premium Wear OS watch that was announced at I/O 2021, the company is rolling out some Fitbit OS updates for the wearables already in the market, particularly the Fitbit Versa 3 and the Fitbit Sense. These updates include SpO2 stats, better clock face switching options, and more.

For starters, Google Assistant on the Fitbit Versa 3 and Fitbit Sense are getting optional audio responses, that can also be disabled, along with on-screen text. For example, if you ask Google Assistant to set an alarm for 7AM, the Assistant is going to respond with - “Done. Your alarm’s set for tomorrow at 7 a.m.”; if you ask it how long you’ve slept, you’ll hear something like - “Since yesterday, you slept a total of 8 hr and 15 minutes”.

Next, to change clock faces you no longer need to swipe through the app grid. Henceforth on the Fitbit Versa 3 and Fitbit Sense, the Fitbit Clocks app can be quickly accessed by long-pressing on the current watch face for a few seconds (like it is on the Apple Watch). There are also new on-wrist celebrations like full-screen radial pulses.

There is also oxygen saturation or SpO2 that is going to now start appearing on the Today dashboard along with other stars and you no longer need to use the special clock face or check your mobile app to see nightly averages and trends from the week gone by. The Versa 3 is also getting on-device high and low heart rate notifications. As Fitbit explains - “With 24/7 continuous heart rate tracking, Versa 3 can detect and send a notification if your heart rate is outside of your set heart rate thresholds. If you receive a notification, you can also take a survey in the Fitbit app to help you better understand what’s going on”.
