Google’s new Android Wear OS version details revealed, based on Android 11 features

Google is all set to bring some major changes to its Android Wear OS and many of it has been revealed by Karen Ng, director of product and Robert Simpson, product manager in their #11WeeksOfAndroid blog post. The firm says it’s new OS update, which is based on Android 11 features, will focus on ‘fundamentals’ like performance and power. The update is scheduled to arrive later this year. 

The performance will be faster with the new OS version, state the execs. And this will be reflected when it will let you access information faster and start apps more swiftly. It will also simplify the pairing process, something that will make onboarding easier. “You’ll see improvements to our SysUI for more intuitive controls for managing different watch modes and workouts,” they said. There will be some core CPU improvements as well, which will improve the speeds by 20% in startup time for apps.

LTE support will continue with the new OS and so will the new Qualcomm chipsets like Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 4100+.

The post also talked about an upcoming handwashing timer feature in response to Covid-19 pandemic. This comes right after Apple introduced the same feature in its new watchOS version, which is scheduled to arrive later this year. There are some other changes made in weather experience as well.

“And later this year, you’ll see a beautiful new weather experience for Wear OS by Google. It aims to be easier to read while on the go, with an hourly breakdown of today’s weather to help you plan ahead and provide information about important weather alerts in your area,” said the execs in the post.

New OEMs have been added to the Android Wear list – Oppo, Suunto and Xiaomi.
