New Apple Glass patent states it as an accessory, not a standalone product

From the looks of it, the augmented reality product appears to be a standard pair of eyeglasses without any large machinery embedded on the side or on the frames.

Some new details have popped up on the web about Apple’s upcoming eye-wear device, thanks to a new patent that was filed a few days ago. Titled ‘Monitoring A User Of A Head-wearable Electronic Device,’ the patent now just showcases the device but also mentions it as an accessory for an iPhone instead of a standalone device.

From the looks of it, the augmented reality product appears to be a standard pair of eyeglasses without any large machinery embedded on the side or on the frames. However, this is just an illustration and the end product, only if it ever sees the light of the day, could be way different. It will also be difficult for the company to cramp all the tech along with a battery in such a form factor. But nonetheless, it shows what Apple eventually plans to achieve with it.

The patent states that there can be a variety of visual sensors inside the device. It could use light waves broadcast at different frequencies to detect, “various different head gestures, including, but not limited to, chewing, blinking, winking, smiling, eyebrow raising, jaw motioning (e.g., jaw protrusion, jaw retrusion, lateral jaw excursion, jaw depression, jaw elevation, etc.), mouth opening, and/or the like.”

As per the rumours, Apple’s AR glass, tipped previously as Apple Glass, could launch sometime in 2021. But considering the patents are still being filed around the tech, it might take some more time for the iPhone maker to bring this to the hands of end users. The firm is also expected to launch a much bulkier VR headset.
