Reliance RIL AGM 2020: Reliance Jio launches Jio Glass

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) hosted its 43rd annual general meeting (AGM) on July 15. At its annual event, which was hosted virtually for the first time this year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the company launched Jio Glass, a Google Glass-like device that is powered by mixed reality.

The newly launched Jio Glass weighs just 75 grams and it connects to the internet using a simple cable that in turn connects to users’ smartphones. It supports all audio formats and it already has an ecoystem of a total of 25 apps supporting it.

Jio Glass supports mixed reality. Using this technology users can share presentations and even other 3D assets over a conference call. What’s more? Users can interact with other users using their 3D and 2D avatars via Jio Glass.

In addition to helping businesses as they work remotely, Jio Glass will also help students study remotely. RIL said that students will be able to study using 3D classes using Jio Glass.

“Jio Glass is making teachers and students come together in 3D virtual rooms and conduct holographic classes through our Jio Mixed Reality cloud in real-time. With JioGlass, the traditional way of learning Geography will now be History,” Kiran Thomas, President of Reliance Industries Limited said while showing off the Jio Glass at the company's 43rd AGM.

Notalbly, while Reliance Jio did show off its mixed reality powered smart glasses, Jio Glass, at the event, it did not share the price and availability of Jio Glass yet. However, given the Jio's penchant for bringing high-end technology to users at affordable prices, it is not difficult to anticipate that Jio Glass, just like Jio Phone, would be priced ergonomically.
