Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, Watch Active 4 could launch in Q2 2021

Samsung will launch its next-generation smartwatches, Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4, in the second quarter of the year, says leakster Ice Universe.

The leakster did not disclose anything else about the smartwatches. According to reports, Samsung’s next-gen smartwatches will come with a blood sugar monitoring feature. The company will reportedly use the Raman spectroscopy method, which has been co-developed with MIT. The feature is likely to come in handy to people suffering from diabetes.

GSMArena reports Samsung’s new smartwatches could debut alongside the next Note-series smartphone. The company is also expected to launch Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 later this year.

The Galaxy Watch 4 series will succeed the Galaxy Watch 3, which launched in August last year. The Galaxy Watch 3 comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes. The smaller model comes in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Silver, while the Galaxy Watch 45mm variant comes in Mystic Silver and Mystic Black.

The 45mm model has a 1.4-inch round touchscreen coupled with a 340mAh battery. The smaller 41mm variant features a 1.2-inch display with a 247mAh battery. Both models come with AMOLED displays with Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 comes with a circular dial with a rotating bezel. The smartwatch also features an atmospheric pressure sensor, GPS antennae, light sensor, touchscreen and speakers. The smartwatch also houses an ECG monitor, 5ATM and IP68 water and dust resistant certifications. There is also a fall-detection feature that sends an emergency message to contacts of users’ choice if one suffers a fall and are unresponsive for over a minute.

In terms of specifications, Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 comes with the latest iteration of Tizen OS. It has up to 1GB of RAM, up to 8GB of built-in storage and Exynos 9110 dual-core 1.15 GHz.
