Alexa users will soon be able to make it speak like anyone they want, even your relatives. Alexa will soon be able to speak like your grandmother, or any one else. "Amazon.com Inc wants to give customers the chance to make Alexa, the company's voice assistant, sound just like their grandmother — or anyone else," a report by Reuters said. Amazon is developing a system to let Alexa mimic any voice after hearing less than a minute of audio, said Rohit Prasad, an Amazon senior vice president, at a conference the company held in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

The goal is to “make the memories last” after “so many of us have lost someone we love” during the pandemic, he added. However, as per the report, the ecommerce retailer has not yet given any comment on the same. "Amazon declined to share when it would roll out such a feature," Reuters said in the report. The goal behind this feature is to help people with speech impairments or other problems but some worry it could also be used to propagate political deepfakes. Prasad said Amazon's aim for Alexa is “generalizable intelligence,” or the ability to adapt to user environments and learn new concepts with little external input. He said that goal is “not to be confused with the all-knowing, all-capable, uber artificial general intelligence,” or AGI, which Alphabet's DeepMind unit and Elon Musk-co-founded OpenAI are seeking.

How to use Alexa

You can ask any question and make requests using just your voice from Alexa. For instance, you can ask Alexa a question, such as "What is the weather today?", or tell Alexa to do something, like "Add batteries to my shopping list," or "Play jazz." According to the information provided by Amazon, when you speak to Alexa, a recording of what you asked Alexa is sent to Amazon's cloud so that it can process and respond to your request. You can also review voice recordings associated with your account and delete the voice recordings -one by one, by date range, by Alexa-enabled device, by attributed voice ID, or all at once by visiting Settings > Alexa Privacy in the Alexa app or https://www.amazon.com/alexaprivacysettings. From either page, you can also choose to have your voice recordings older than 3 or 18 months deleted automatically, or you can choose to not save any voice recordings.

If you choose not to save any voice recordings, Amazon will automatically delete your voice recordings after it will process your requests and automatically delete all of the voice recordings currently in your Voice History as well. And you can delete all those voice recordings associated with your account all at once for each of your Alexa-enabled devices and apps by visiting Manage Your Content and Devices.
