Amazon has launched its new premium e-reader, dubbed Kindle Voyage, initially in the US only. The model stands out namely for its thin design, high-resolution screen and adaptive lighting.
At 7.6mm thick, the Voyage is the thinnest Kindle yet. Above all else, however, the new e-reader stands out for its next-generation six-inch screen, which has an unprecedented 300ppi resolution and is designed to more closely mimic the appearance of paper.
The Kindle Voyage also offers an innovative adaptive front light, which detects surrounding lighting conditions and adjusts brightness accordingly to guarantee optimal reading comfort. The light is also 39% brighter than the one on the Paperwhite.
In addition, the 3G version of the Kindle Voyage will come with free 3G connectivity in around 100 countries where Amazon has signed agreements with network operators.
Unveiled in September along with the new Kindle Fire range of multimedia tablets, the Kindle Voyage is available now in the US. Prices start at $199 for the WiFi-only version with promotional offers and reach $269 for the 3G version without sponsored screensavers.
The Amazon Kindle range also includes the latest entry-level Kindle ($79) and the Paperwhite with or without 3G connectivity ($119-189).
