Google starts rolling out Android 11: Here’s everything you need to know about it

Google has started rolling out Android 11 on Pixel smartphones, select OnePlus smartphones, Xiaomi smartphones, Oppo smartphones and Realme smartphones, starting today.

Google, after months of beta testing, launched its next-generation mobile operating system, Android 11 today.

Google has started rolling out Android 11 on Pixel smartphones, which includes Pixel 2 series, Pixel 3 series, Pixel 3A series, Pixel 4 series and Pixel 4a series smartphones, select OnePlus smartphones, Xiaomi smartphones, Oppo smartphones and Realme smartphones, starting today. It will roll out the Android 10 successor to smartphones by other companies in the coming months.

Android 11 lays focus on making it easier for users to use their smartphones. For instance, Google has moved conversations across messaging apps will be moved to a dedicated space in the notifications section, which makes it easier for users to manage their conversations. There is also a feature called bubbles that makes it easier for users to multitask on their smartphones. Additionally, the company has made it easier for users to control all their smart devices. Android 11 also brings several new features to Android's ecosystem. For example, Android 11 brings built-in screen recording feature to Android smartphones. Additionally, Android 11 brings a bunch of new privacy features to the Android ecosystem. There are one-time permissions that will allow users to grant single-use access to their most sensitive permissions, which includes a microphone, camera and location data. The app will need to ask for permission again if they want to access certain sensors again.

Apart from this, Android 11 will now auto-reset permissions for users' unused apps. Users can grant permissions again next time when they use the app. “With additional Google Play system update-modules, even more security and privacy fixes can be sent to your phone from Google Play, in the same way, your apps update. So you'll get these fixes as soon as they're available, without having to wait for a full OS update,” Google wrote in a blog post.
