Apple cuts iPhone 6S, 6S Plus prices by ₹22,000 ahead of iPhone 7 launch

In what can only be called the highest price cut ever by the Cupertino-headquartered tech giant, the iPhone 6S (128GB) version will be available for ₹60,000 -- a straight ₹22,000 drop from ₹82,000 at which it was retailing in the country. The bigger-screen variant, iPhone 6S Plus (128GB), will now be available at a price of ₹70,000. The smartphone too has received a direct price cut of ₹22,000.
Not only that, the latest four-inch iPhone SE will also retail for lower prices. The 64GB version of iPhone SE, currently sporting a price tag of ₹49,000 will now be available at ₹44,000.
"Apple has reduced prices in certain variants of the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and the SE," an industry souce in the know of things told HT.
However, the company is yet to start taking pre-orders for the new iPhones which is set to go on sale from October 7. The new iPhones will come with iOS 10 out of the box with the Plus sporting a dual rear camera. Both the 7 family variants will come with optical image stabilisation, 3D Touch Hone Button and a dust, water resistant design.
Last year, Apple had launched iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus in India in October. While the iPhone 6S (16GB) was launched at a price of ₹62,000, the iPhone 6S Plus (16GB) had a retail price of ₹72,000. Both the iPhones come with 3D Touch and 2GB RAM along with support for 4K videos.
The four-inch SE, which was launched to push Apple smartphones in emerging markets like India, sports a 4-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display with a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels. The SE runs a A9 chipset with M9 motion co-processor. Other specifications of the device are 12MP rear camera and Touch ID.
