At its Zensation exhibit at Design Week in Milan (April 14-19), Asus is showcasing the Vivowatch, a new wearable promising up to 10 days between charges, the longest battery life ever seen on a smartwatch. The Taiwanese manufacturer achieved this feat in part thanks to an in-house OS, which is said to be lighter than Android Wear.

Water-proof and dust-proof (IP67), the Vivowatch is a smartwatch as well as a complete activity tracker that tallies steps taken, calories consumed, and time slept, as well as keeping tabs on the wearer's heartrate.

With its monochrome display and limited feature set, the VivoWatch is positioned more as an alternative to the Withings Activité Pop or to simple activity trackers rather than a competitor for the more sophisticated Apple Watch or LG Watch Urbane.

With all the emphasis on battery life, Asus neglected to mention the launch date or price of the device, though it will likely sell for slightly less than the first Asus smartwatch, the ZenWatch, which is available for around $199.99 in the US.

Unveiled at IFA in Berlin last year, the elegant Asus ZenWatch offers a heartrate monitor, as well as the ability to control a smartphone or tablet remotely.
