BlackBerry makers Research in Motion (RIM) tried on Tuesday to soothe angry customers across the world, including India, by offering them more than $100 (₹4,800) worth of applications and a month of free technical support as compensation for last week's massive outage.
RIM said it was an "expression of appreciation for their (the customers') patience during the recent service disruptions".
The applications will be made available to users in the next few weeks on BlackBerry's Application World website and can be downloaded till December 31.
Popular Electronic Arts games SIMS 3 and Bejeweled are among the games that BlackBerry users will be able to download for free. Both games cost ₹92.95 in India.
The popular Bubble Bash 2, which costs ₹232.99 in India, can also be downloaded for free.
The list of free applications is impressive and includes more than just games. The successful song recognition application Shazam Encore (₹279.69) and
Photo Editor Ultimate (₹92.95) are also on the freebies list. The availability of the freebies, however, will depend on the device, operating system, access to BlackBerry Application World and local restrictions. There are many BlackBerry applications that can be used in Europe and US, but not in India.
RIM's enterprise customers will also be given one month of free technical support. Current customers will be offered a complimentary one-month extension of their existing technical support contract, and customers who do not currently have a technical support contract will be offered a one-month trial of technical support services free of charge.
"We appreciate and value our relationship with customers. We've worked hard to earn their trust over the past 12 years, and we're committed to providing a high standard of reliability they expect, today and in the future," said RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis.
