Indian handset-maker Lava on Monday said that it was launching what it claims -- is the first 4G smartphone of the country -- Lava 4G Connect M1 at a price of 3,333 to help India realise its Digital India dream painted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to a statement sent by the company, the Lava 4G Connect M1 comes with pre-loaded applications such as Facebook-Lite including some other messaging applications which can take advantage of the data connection once enabled on the handset. The statement also claims that users should be able to "watch videos and enjoy live content streaming through high speed 4G mobile internet, connect with friends and loved ones through pre-loaded Facebook Lite and social messaging apps, carry out digital payments with ease, listen to music online through music streaming applications and experience better voice clarity and make calls faster with this VoLTE enabled feature phone."

The Lava 4G Connect M1 comes with a 1.2 GHz Quad core processor coupled with a 512 MB RAM. The Connect M1, which has a polycarbonate body, draws power from a 1,750 mAh battery. On enquiry, the company said that the phone runs on "MoCoDroid" operating system.

"The launch of this smart feature phone, we believe, will create possibilities for users as they will now be able to consume digital content and even do digital transactions. Furthermore, a sizeable segment of feature phone users in India who use their phone to only make calls will now be able to access the internet; to their advantage; and that too at affordable price," Gaurav Nigam, head - Product, Lava International, said.

Other features of the phone include Wireless FM, box speaker and K class amplifier for loud and clear sound, and a VGA camera.Apart from 4G, Lava 4G Connect M1 supports 2G voice calling and EDGE connectivity.

According to the recently released Cyber Media Research report, Lava International was announced as the largest Indian mobile handset brand in the feature phone segment with 12.3% market share, based on the mobile handset shipment performance of Q3, 2016.
