Digital gift cards are replacing dinner sets this wedding season: Snapdeal

Given the pandemic wedding restrictions, more individuals have been opting to give gifts digitally; choosing to gift-vouchers/cards available on the e-commerce platform.

Snapdeal, a popular e-commerce platform, recorded an increase in spending on e-gift cards this year. As per the firm, it got an additional boost in the last one month because of the ongoing wedding season. As more individuals bought gift cards vis-a vis last year, Snapdeal claims to have seen three times increase in average number gift cards transactions.

Given the pandemic wedding restrictions, more individuals have been opting to give gifts digitally; choosing to gift-vouchers/cards available on the e-commerce platform. These gift-vouchers/ cards are generated and shared online via email and can also be shipped to recipients' physical addresses, based on the customer's preferences.

Speaking on the trend, Snapdeal spokesperson remarked “Like everything else, the pandemic has also changed the e gifting landscape. Seeing growing user interest in gift cards and vouchers, Snapdeal has added more gift card options to adapt to life after Covid-19.”

“Today our users can choose vouchers of over 150+ brands to facilitate instant gifting and redemption across categories such as apparel, accessories, food, mobile, electronics, jewellery, etc. E-gift vouchers have, in fact, turned out to be very convenient and popular and customers can even choose from various prices” he added.

According to Snapdeal, some of the top selling gift cards categories were:

Home goods and electronics: Digital cards of pepperfry.com, Urban Ladder, Home Center, Fab India and Prestige were popular. Home Center, Fab India and Croma gift cards were one of the highest selling cards.

Grocery and home needs: Dining gift cards from Zomato and Chaayos, have been very popular this year along with supermart/ retail vouchers like Spencers, More and Big Bazaar. These come with one-year validity as well.

Travel and hospitality: Many people gifted weekend getaways or staycation to newly married, choosing from Makemytrip, Yatra, Cleartrip to Fab hotel gift cards.

Jewellery: Gold and silver jewellery were still considered auspicious and while not everyone could  afford to splurge, e-gift cards of popular jewellery brands such as Tanishq, Joyalukkas, PC Jewellers and Kalyan Jewellers were available on the website.
