Dr PS Goel bags Aryabhata Award

Renowned Scientist Dr PS Goel, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi has bagged the prestigious Aryabhata Award for the year 2005.

Renowned Scientist Dr PS Goel, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi has bagged the prestigious Aryabhata Award for the year 2005.

Mr P Varadaraj of DRDO Hyderabad has won the Award for Rocket Related Technology, while award for Space Sciences and Applications was bagged by Dr VK Agarwal, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore.

Mr SK Shivakumar, ISRO Telemetry, Tracking & Command Network, Bangalore has bagged the award for Space Systems Management and Prof R Sridharan, Space Physics Laboratory, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram had been honoured with the ASI award for his contributions in Space Science & Applications.

Following are the other winners: Rocket & Related Technologies: Mr TR Chidambaram,Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram; Spacecraft Related Technologies: Mr BN Baliga, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore and Dr SB Sharma, Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad; Space Systems Management: Mr BS Bhatia, Director, Development and Educational Communication Unit, Ahmedabad (Retd); Space Science & Applications: Dr PS Roy, Dy Director, National Remote Sensing Agency, Hyderabad and Dr VK Dadhwal, Dean, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun.

Women Scientist Award: Ms Kalpana Arvind, Laboratory for Electro-Optic Systems, Bangalore and Ms Shefali Agarwal, National Remote Sensing Agency, Hyderabad.

Team Achievement Award: Mr K Ratnakara and Team, Development of M and C System at Master Control Facility, Hassan; Mr PA Krishnamoorthy and Team, Arc Plasma Generator Facility, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram; Mr R Seshaiah and Team, JPEG Comp. And Solid State Recorder, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore; Mr M B N Murthy and Team, Liquid Propellant Storage and Service Facilities Cryo Team, Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota.

Aryabhata Award carries One Lakh cash and citation, while each of the ASI awards and Women Scientist Award carry a 25,000 cash and citation. Team Achievement Award carries One lakh cash and citation.

Astronautical Society of India (ASI), set up in 1990, is fostering the development of astronautics in the country through dissemination of technical and other information related to astronautics.

It has instituted several awards to recognise talented Indian individuals who have made significant contributions to astronautics.
