EPFO Tip: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation or the EPFO has some good news for the 6.5 million Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) account holders in the country ahead of Diwali. The EPFO has announced that the interest for the financial year 2020-2021 has been credited to the accounts of the PF account holders. The government has transferred interest at the rate of 8.5% for the financial year 2020-2021. Know how to check EPF balance online below.

This extra money credited to PF account holders will be particularly useful in case of a medical emergency or if you have a loan that you want to pay off or if you want extra money for your kid's college tuition. However, it is not recommended that PF account holders spend this money on festivities. This money is specially meant for big ticket purchases like buying a home, car or education and especially for retirement.

How to withdraw EPF money online - If you want to withdraw all this money, here is what you need to do:

Step 1: Go to www.epfindia.gov.in website and click on Online Advance Claim option.

Step 2: Next, go to Online Service and click on Claim (Form-31,19,10C and 10D).

Step 3: Now enter and verify the last 4 digits of your bank account and Click on Proceed for Online Claim option.

Step 4: After that, select PF Advance from the drop-down (Form 31).

Step 5: Choose your reason from the drop down menu and then enter the amount to be transferred. After that, upload the scanned copy of the cheque.

Step 6: Click on Get Aadhaar OTP and type OTP received on the Aadhaar linked mobile number and you are good to go.

But if you don't want to withdraw the amount and just want to check the balance, here's how you can do so:

How to check EPF balance via SMS

Step 1: Type EPFOHO UAN ENG or EPFOHO UAN HIN into the text box and send it to 7738299899. The last three digits being for the language of choice. This SMS must be sent from the registered mobile number.

Step 2: After this message, you will get a message with your PF account balance.

How to check EPF balance via missed call

Step 1: Make a single missed call to 011-22901406 from your EPFO-registered mobile number.

Step 2: You EPFO-registered mobile number will get a balance notification after the missed call.

How to check EPF balance online (official website)

Step 1: Visit the EPFO's official website and click the e-Passbook link.

Step 2: Enter the UAN number and password of the Provident Fund account holder.

Step 3: Now click on the View Passbook option to see your account balance.
