The news about user engagement comes months after the site switched to a 'Timeline' form and just days after the company's botched IPO.

According to the report, some experts say the news is not cause for alarm.

With Facebook's user base growing exponentially, Webby Awards and International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences chairman David-Michel Davies said the engagement numbers have more to do with the growing number of users.

'As you broaden and broaden and broaden, you're not going to have the level of engagement with 100 people as you're going to have with 900 million people,' the paper quoted Davies, as saying.

Meanwhile, the poll also found that 46 percent of respondents had a bad view of investing in Facebook's stock.
