Gionee S6s, first smartphone with front flash, launched

Chinese handset-maker Gionee on Monday launched its first smartphone with front flash or selfie flash -- the S6s -- at a price of ₹17,999 in an exclusive partnership with e-commerce giant Amazon India.

Equipped with an eight-megapixel front camera with selfie flash (High CRI) and a fHD 5.5-inch display protected by Gorilla Glass 3, the S6S supports both 4G and VoLTE. The S6s will be available across India in colour variants of Mocha Gold and Latte Gold.

"Earlier this year, we announced our mission to "Make Smiles", by launching products that are intuitive, future ready, stylish and high on performance. The S6s delivers on each of these parameters and will change the way India clicks selfies. We have an ambitious 3-fold target this year, and the flagship S6s will go a long way in helping us achieve those figures," Arvind Vohra, managing director and India CEO, Gionee, said.

The S6s runs on a MediaTek 6753 64bit Octa-core 1.3GHz CPU along with a 3GB RAM unit. The phone comes with an internal memory of 32GB which is expandable upto 128GB. It also sports a fingerprint sensor that the company claims can unlock the device under 0.02 seconds.

The phone, which draws power from a 3,150mAh battery, runs on Android 6.0 along with the Amigo UI. In terms of optics, the phone comes with 13-megapixel rear camera. The S6s also has several in-built features like video editor with themed and professional edits, gallery trash with helps the user relocate and restore deleted photos in the trash folder within seven days, gallery hiding management, desktop management, Image + (face beauty, real time filter, beauty editor). Other camera features include video beautification, time lapse, text Reorganization and macro quality pictures.

The company also said that the phones would be made in India. "Right now nearly 60 percent of our products are being made in India. We will open a manufacturing unit in India in the next two years to take the production to a 100 percent level," Vohra said adding that the factory would be around 50 acres.

Currently the company employs 200 people which Vohra said would go up to 400 by the end of the next quarter.
