Search giant Google has removed a Dutch company's website, which allowed users to navigate Google Street View maps and walk through the streets of many real-life cities with an assault rifle.

Dutch ad agency Pool Worldwide recently unveiled a gamer's dream-a video game map as big as the world, making use of Google's Street View service and a gun.

The game, Google Shoot View, had an M4A1 carbine superimposed on Google Street View images with gun sound effects, allowing users to go to different places, including Melbourne, and begin shooting at whatever they wanted with no blood or guts involved.

But Google has put a stop to it, with the Dutch ad agency saying the US search giant had blocked it from using its Street View service, The Age reports.

"Google has apperantly [sic] killed the link to their API," the company said on its site.

"Sorry for the inconvenience. We will be back!" it added.

According to the report, Michael Meloni of somebodythinkofthechildren.com, a blog about censorship and moral panic in Australia, predicted the game would present an irresistible opportunity for politicians, law enforcement and the media to 'have a go'.
