Airtel on Wednesday introduced a new feature ‘Airtel Safe Pay' to make digital payments more secure and reduce online payment frauds.

Once enabled, Airtel customers who choose to make UPI or net banking payments through Airtel Payments Bank will get an additional layer of payment validation before completing a transaction. The layer is in addition to the standard two-step verification process.

“An India-First innovation, ‘Airtel Safe Pay' leverages Airtel's ‘telco exclusive' strength of network intelligence to provide an additional layer of payment validation compared to the industry norm of two-factor authentication. This offers the highest level of protection from potential frauds such as phishing, stolen credentials or passwords, and even phone cloning that catches customers unaware,” said the company in a press release.

How to enable Airtel Safe Pay

Step 1: Open the Airtel Thanks application on your phone.

Step 2: Tap on the banking section from the bottom menu.

Step 3: Tap on Safe Pay.

Step 4: Tap on the toggle button to enable it.

Step 5: Check UPI and net banking.

Once you have enabled it, you will see Safe Pay as an activated feature on the top card.

How it works

Let's say, you are making a payment through UPI on the Airtel Payments Bank. During the process, you will enter the 4-digit Mpin to go through the payment. With Airtel Safe Pay enabled, you will get an additional step on the screen to “accept” the payment transaction.

It is worth noting that the Airtel Safe Pay feature is completely free of charge.
