Apple Watch Series 5 with Always On display launched, price starts at ₹40,900
Apple on Tuesday introduced a new Apple Watch Series 5. The latest smartwatch comes with an Always-On Retina Display which allows users to see notifications and other alerts without raising or tapping the screen. Apple Watch Series 5 comes with a built-in compass for better navigation and an international emergency calling feature.
Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS) starts at ₹40,900 while the GPS with Cellular model starts at ₹49,900. The device will be available in India starting September 27. Apple has also dropped the price of its Watch Series 3 as the GPS model is now available at a discounted price of ₹20,900. The Watch Series 3 with GPS and Cellular now costs ₹20,900.
Apple Watch Series 5 comes in two cases - 44mm and 40mm with 368x448 pixels and 312x390 pixels resolutions respectively. Apple claims the 44mm model has over 30% larger display than Series 3. The device has second-generation optical heart sensor and fall detection. It is powered by 64-bit dual-core S5 processor, which is said to be 2X faster than the S3 processor. It also features W3 Apple wireless chip. On the software front, it runs on watchOS 6 out-of-the-box.
Apple claims the new smartwatch can deliver up to 18 hours of battery life. Other key connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz.
Apple has also announced Nike+ edition of its new smartwatch. Apple Watch Series 5 will also be available in more builds, including aluminum, stainless steel, ceramic and an all-new titanium.
The new model is said to be a big upgrade over the Apple Watch Series 4 which launched last year. Available online for a starting price of ₹40,000 approximately, Apple Watch Series 4 brought in major design changes, an edge-to-edge display, redesigned UI, and improved processor under-the-hood. The Watch Series 4 was the first model to bring ECG feature.
