Continuous research is being done to explore space. Rockets, satellites, among others are being launched on a regular basis by the research organisations like NASA, ISRO, to come up with new findings. Recently, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on August 5 launched the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). Launched from the first launchpad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, the SSLV-D1 took off at 9:18 am on Sunday, deploying two small satellites in a low-Earth orbit (LEO) of about 365km above the equator. Later, via its official Twitter handle ISRo informed that the SSLV-D1 placed the satellites into 356 km x 76 km elliptical orbit instead of 356 km circular orbit.

“SSLV-D1 placed the satellites into 356 km x 76 km elliptical orbit instead of 356 km circular orbit. Satellites are no longer usable. Issue is reasonably identified. Failure of a logic to identify a sensor failure and go for a salvage action caused the deviation. A committee would analyse and recommend. With the implementation of the recommendations, ISRO will come back soon with SSLV-D2,” the tweet read.

May it be a successful mission or an unsuccessful one, the research organisations never stop their efforts to know about space, planets and more. After the recent launch, ISRO has lined up three important upcoming missions. Check the details below.

1. Chandrayaan-3

ISRO had launched Chandrayaan-2 in 2019, however, the mission was not successful. But now with Chandrayaan-3, ISRO will be trying its best to complete its mission with the primary objective of putting a lander and rover in the highlands near the south pole of the Moon. It can be known that Chandrayaan-3 will be ISRO's third lunar exploration mission. According to a report by Financial Express, Union Minister Jitendra Singh had in February 2022 said that based on the learnings from the failure of Chandrayaan-2 and suggestions made by some national level experts, the realisation of Chandrayaan-3 is in progress. It can be known that the launch of Chandrayaan-3 is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023.

2. Gaganyaan

Gaganyaan is going to be India's first manned mission to space that is ISRO is likely to send three Indian astronauts into space with this. The launch is expected to happen in 2023, however, the exact date is not yet known. According to a report by the Financial Express, “the purpose of deploying uncrewed missions is to demonstrate and test the technology, safety, and reliability of systems before the crewed flight. To explain it in scientific terms, the objective of this mission is to demonstrate an indigenous capability to undertake human space flight mission to Low Earth Orbit (LEO).”

3. Aditya - L1

Sun is one of the most interesting subjects for research organisations and the Aditya L1 spacecraft is ISRO's attempt to study the Sun making it India's first mission to do so. The Aditya L1 is likely to be launched in the first quarter of 2023. It can be known that, if this mission turns out to be successful, it will become easier for ISRO to predict the storms coming from the Sun. It will also help scientists study the effects of variation in the Solar Weather System.
