OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T phones to get Android P update, skip Android Oreo
Two-year-old OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T phones will be receiving the Android P update soon. These two phones were recently had gotten the OxygenOS 5.0.4 update.
Good news for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users. The company has announced that these two old phones will be eligible for the Android P update — Google's next big OS iteration for Android phones.
"After internal discussions and evaluation, we have decided to focus our development resources on the Android P project instead of upgrading the device to Android 8.1, so that we can offer more exciting features and improvements for our OnePlus 3 and 3T users," the company said in a forum post.
"Over the past few months, we have been working closely with Google on the Android P Beta program. Thanks to everyone's participation and continued feedback, the progress we have made together has been greatly accelerated. The Android P update will be available on the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5/T and OnePlus 3/3T, in this order. We will keep you all updated in the coming months," it added.
The announcement comes shortly after OnePlus rolled out the OxygenOS 5.0.4 update for OnePlus 3 and 3T phones. The update brought in a slew of bug fixes along with Android Security patch to July 2018 and improvements to general performance including camera and certain third-party applications.
OnePlus' new announcement is a big development for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users as they'll be skipping the line to get the latest of Android. It is worth noting that OnePlus had confirmed Android P update for OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, and OnePlus 6 phones thus far. Both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were launched in 2016 and are still running some version of Android Oreo. ALSO READ: OnePlus 6 Review
