Podcasting has been around for a while now. But with our Internet service providers finally giving us decent speeds of 1 MB per second and additional bandwidth, users can enjoy more audio and video content on the Web. Podcasting is a great tool for all you bloggers and budding Web entrepreneurs to market your space, inform readers, or even just have a little personalised chat with scores of other netizens.

Tools for creating podcasts have evolved over the years, and here is an updated list of the better ones available.

Podcasting Applications
Audacity

It is an overall audio suite software, for recording, editing and converting audio. It works on most platforms and is free. You can use this tool to create the audio file, edit it and then fine tune it, all in a very easy-to-use interface.
SnapKast
SnapKast is not free, but a reasonable and acute solution for podcasting. You can download its demo version and try it out. It creates audio files and converts to MP3 and MP4. The sessions are shared online, delivered via RSS podcasts, and played back on any computer or podcatching device such as iPod, Zune, PSP, cellphone, etc.

Online Podcasting Creation tools

Podomatic
This site is a colourful, growing database of already podcasted streams of audio ranging from movie soundtracks, news feeds, interviews, etc. Of course, you can also create and upload podcasts directly from your browser.

Clickcaster
This one is one of the most popular and established sites that is also user friendly. It has features for recording directly into the browser, uploading MP3s and more.

Hipcast
This one is the most user friendly, owing to its well laid out interface and design. You can upload, record over the browser and phone-in audio and video. Podcast RSS URLs are supplied, and you can then publish straight to iTunes.

Podcast hosting and sharing sites
Liberated Syndication, or Libsyn
This is a very uniquely designed site with a daily newspaper feel to it. You can upload and share your podcasts here.
The site has some serious articles and experienced bloggers and users uploading content on their space, and subscribing to their network is a learning experience for serious podcasters who wants their voice to be heard.

Podcast people
A straightforward web-based service where you can upload your audio and video to a customised podcast show. The site claims that it is possible to earn a buck or two if your show clicks with sponsors. It's worth a dekko.
