Social networking, Facebook top for Indian Android fans

Android is the leading operating system in the world and the market reach of social networking sites among users in India has increased from 86 percent in October 2011 to 93 percent in April 2012.

Social networking is one of the top activities for Android smartphone users in India, according to a May 31 report by market analysts Nielsen.

Android is the leading operating system in the world and the market reach of social networking sites among users in India has increased from 86 percent in October 2011 to 93 percent in April 2012.

The report from Nielsen found that among Android phone users in India, social networking properties (apps and sites) are the second most accessed properties, only coming behind search.

Of these social networking properties Facebook, with an 88 percent reach is the most popular followed by Google +,with a 17 percent reach, and then Twitter with 13 percent reach.

Among these Android users the Facebook app was more popular than the mobile site; with, on average, in April 2012, Android users in India using the app 17 days per month, in comparison to accessing the mobile site 9 days per month.

According to a report from the NPD Group released May 17 the Facebook app was accessed by 75 percent of Android smartphone users in the US in the month of March, making it the most popular social networking application.
