If you're new to the PS3 and the XBox, here are the games that you simply must not miss playing on the console. Buckle up.

PS3 games
God of War III

If you've bought a PS3, you simply need to buy God of War III. No other game this generation (except maybe for Uncharted 2) comes close to Kratos' final adventure in terms of gameplay, brutality, visuals, and boss fights. The game costs 2,499.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Uncharted is the only game that can rival GoW III in terms of visuals and cinematic set pieces. It follows the exploits of Nathan Drake, who's hot on the trail of Marco Polo's treasure. The sequel, worth 2,499, ships with a multiplayer mode.

Little Big Planet GOTY
Imaginative and charming, Little Big Planet can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. You play as the cute Sackboy who traverses puzzles while gathering collectibles. You can also make your own levels and share them online. The game costs 1,899.

inFamous
You play as Cole McGrath, a courier delivery boy who finds himself endowed with electric powers after a package he's transporting destroys half his city. It's completely your choice whether to save the city or wreak further havoc on it. It's yours for 1,499.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
A lot more action oriented than its PS2 counterparts, Metal Gear Solid 4 was the fitting end to the MGS saga. You step into the boots of super soldier Snake as he fights his brother Liquid Ocelot's plans of world domination. Grab a copy for 1,799.

God of War Collection
It is God of War 1 and 2 remastered in HD with trophy support. How can it not be on your must own list? It costs 1,899.

Killzone 2
Touted as the finest first person shooter to grace the PS3, Killzone had cutting edge graphics, an addictive multiplayer mode and a stellar single player campaign. It's one of the most widely played MP games on the PlayStation Network. Get it for 1,499.

PAIN
A sadistic yet humorous game, PAIN sees you grieve your character as much as is physically possible. Catapult your character across traffic, old ladies, monkeys, mimes, etc as you try to make a high score. Get it for 1,499.

MotorStorm Pacific Rift
If off-road racing is your thing then MotorStorm is the game for you. Be warned though; it's no cake walk and the aggressive opponents will leave you in the dirt. Grab a copy for 1,499.

Heavy Rain
An unconventional adventure game, Heavy Rain follows the journey of a desperate father hot on the trail of a serial killer. It has one of the finest stories in a video game till date. The game costs 2,499.

XBox 360 games

Gears of War 2
Gears of War 2 was the definitive game by Epic. The plot was a bit cheesy but it successfully pummelled us with violence, intense gameplay and engaging multiplayer modes.

Crackdown
Crackdown generated a cult following with its over-the-top cooperative gameplay in which two players went around Pacific City cleaning up streets as genetically modified super cops.

Burnout Revenge
Even though Burnout Revenge for the Xbox 360 is a port, it remains one of the most exhilarating racers.

Dead Rising
It's frustrating and tough thanks to its checkpoint system, but there's no denying that a mall full of zombies to slaughter in innovative ways is just awesome!

Ninja Gaiden II
Fast, ludicrously violent and a deep combat system are just some of the strong points of this game. Be warned though — the gameplay is such that even the most hardcore gamers stand a chance to become demoralised.

Shadow Complex
Arcade game Shadow Complex has high production values, an intriguing plot, well balanced gameplay and fast paced combat. But the game never made it to retail so you have it buy it off Xbox Live.

Halo 3
Bungie Studios does multiplayer really well. So even three years after launch, Halo 3 is still a popular game on XBL today.

Project Gotham Racing 4
PGR 4 is the latest and, unfortunately, most underrated installment of the Project Gotham Racing series that pioneered the racing sub-genre mix of arcade and simulation.

Fable 2
If you find RPGs like Oblivion and Fallout 3 complex, go for Fable 2, a game that manages to tread the fine line between action and RPG without the clichéd RPG stuff.
