Tech Wrap: Realme launch, Snapchat user growth, Sony Xperia 1 II launch and more
Here’s everything that made headlines in tech today.
This week started with Realme launching a series of products in India which includes a lot of firsts for the company. We also got an update on the companies chosen by the government to develop the Indian alternative for Zoom.
Sony launched a very expensive smartphone which offers a 4K screen, while Snapchat updated its user stats. PUBG Mobile was also buzzing with an advice from the developers to players and a leak on Season 14 Royale Pass.
Here's a breakdown of all things that made headlines in tech today.
Realme launch
Realme launched a host of products including its first smart TV, smartwatch, a powerbank and a new pair of wireless earbuds. It also teased the launch of a new soundbar. Realme TV starts at ₹12,999 and it's offered in two models with a 32-inch HD one and a 43-inch FHD.
Realme smartwatch is an affordable one as well with a price tag of ₹3,999. The Realme Buds Air Neo is the company's second pair of TWS and it comes with upgraded features. As for the Realme powerbank it has a 10,000mAh battery and it's priced at ₹999.
Indian Zoom
The Indian government has shortlisted ten companies to develop a safe and secure video conferencing platform. These companies will be given a grant of ₹5 lakh each to develop a prototype of the video app. Following this, three selected companies will get ₹20 lakh to build the final version. Finally the winning company will get ₹1 crore.
Sony Xperia 1 II launch
Sony's new smartphone which is the Xperia 1 II carries a price tag of $1,99.99 ( ₹91,000 approx) in the US. It has a 6.5-inch AMOLED 4K display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with 8GB of RAM and 256GB expandable storage. The Sony Xperia 1 II will be available first in the US where the company is giving its noise-cancelling WF-1000XM3 wireless earbuds for free.
Snapchat user growth
Snapchat which finally opened an office in India last year, said the company grew 120% year-over-year in March. Snapchat also reported 229 million daily active users in March which is a 20% increase from the same period last year. Snapchat hasn't revealed the user base for India as yet.
PUBG Mobile
PUBG Mobile has a useful advice for its players in Miramar to not break vending machines. Why? Because it will give away the player's location to enemies as it will sound an alarm. We also got a sneak peek into Royale Pass Season 14 which is going to be titled ‘Spark the Flame'.
