WhatsApp, one of the most widely used messaging and chatting platforms, is rolling out a new update for the desktop client through the official beta channel. The update is said to bring the version up to 2.2149.1. WhatsApp is developing a feature to choose "My Contacts Except..." for privacy settings, in a future update. Informing about the same, WABetaInfo tweeted, "WhatsApp Desktop beta 2.2149.1: what's new? WhatsApp is developing a feature to choose "My Contacts Except..." for your privacy settings, in a future update. More activations on iOS and Android are planned at a later date."

"After introducing some new measures to protect user privacy, WhatsApp is now developing the possibility to set “My Contact Except…” for your privacy settings right within WhatsApp Web/Desktop!," WABetaInfo said in a statement. According to the information, the option “My Contact Except…” will be available for Last Seen, About, Profile Photo. When you select “My Contact Except…” you can choose who cannot see your information on WhatsApp.

This feature will likely be released on WhatsApp Web/Desktop when WhatsApp has completely rolled out the same feature on Android beta and iOS beta, as per WABetaInfo. Also, it needs to be noted that beta testers cannot see and choose “My Contacts Except…” on WhatsApp Web/Desktop, even if the feature “My Contacts Except…” is already enabled for their WhatsApp account.

However, there is not a known release date for the feature to be enabled for more users on iOS and Android.

Apart from this WhatsApp is also working on creating Communities, for a future update. The new update will be rolled out through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.22.1.4.

WABetaInfo took to its twitter account to inform about the same. " WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.1.4: what's new? WhatsApp is working on creating Communities, for a future update!," it tweeted.

According to the information before linking groups to the Community, it is needed to assign a name and an optional description. Also, the release date for the feature to come to beta testers is not yet known.
