You can now request an Uber right from the Zomato app

It's 7 PM on a Saturday. You're lazily flicking through Zomato on your phone looking for your weekend beer fix when a cosy dive bar catches your eye. Perfect.

It's 7 PM on a Saturday. You're lazily flicking through Zomato on your phone looking for your weekend beer fix when a cosy dive bar catches your eye. Perfect.

You exit the Zomato app, open up Uber and start looking for a car. That's too much trouble. Starting today, you'll be able to order an Uber from within the Zomato app.

It looks like this:

We like the fact that it not only shows you how long it will take for an Uber to arrive but also gives fare estimates right within the Zomato app. Tapping on one of those will instantly take you to the Uber app from where you can request a car.

Besides India, Zomato has partnered with Uber 12 other countries -- Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Indonesia, New Zealand, The Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Turkey, UAE, and the United States -- to provide this feature.

This kind of Uber integration in third-party apps is possible because the San Francisco-based startup opened up its API to developers in August last year to expand Uber's footprint even further.

In November 2014, Uber was integrated in a similar fashion within Google Maps, which showed Uber time and fare estimates to a destination whenever users searched for directions using public transport. The feature went live in India in February 2015.
