New Fire TV UI coming to Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube next month
Amazon first rolled out the new Fire TV UI to Fire TV Stick (third-gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite in December.
Amazon announced the new Fire TV interface back in September last year. It first rolled out the new UI to Fire TV Stick (third-gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite in December. The next devices to get this are the Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube and Fire TV, according to a report by Protocol.
The rollout announcement was made by Amazon Fire TV VP and GM Sandeep Gupta in an interview with Protocol. Gupta talked about how the new Fire TV UI was a “pretty radical redesign” for the team. The new Fire TV UI brings a new main menu to the home screen. This lets users scroll over different apps to see a preview of their content, and also jump straight to shows they're currently watching. The main menu tab also has options for Find, Live, Library, and different apps.
Speaking of which, Find is also a new addition to the Fire TV UI. This tool is aimed at helping users easily find movies and TV shows to watch. It lets users search for different content through popular categories including movies, TV shows, free content and sports. It also has filters to narrow down the search on Fire TV.
There's also a Live tab that displays all the live content from different apps. Amazon rolled out the Live tab separately for Fire TV users in India last year in October. Alexa has also been improved in the new Fire TV UI. It can now understand commands such as “Alexa, go to Live TV,” and “Alexa, go to News.” Users can also set up an Alexa voice profile to quickly jump to your profile on Fire TV using the command, “Alexa, switch to my profile.”
Amazon plans to roll out the new UI to TVs with built-in Fire TV OS, and also older streaming adapters in the coming months.
