While we know that most tech firms have taken a hit in sales and growth due to lockdown, brands who are selling notebooks or laptops have still seen a bit of upward going graph. That is because more enterprises have bought notebooks to meet the remote working needs for their employers, as per IDC. And the company what topped the list in India this time was HP. The company was followed by Lenovo, Dell, Acer and Asus.

As per the data for Q2 2020, HP despite facing slightly lesser shipments than Q2 2019 and dipping 8.2% in YoY unit change, was the highest market share holder at 32.8% with around 692,000 shipments. Lenovo, the brand that came in the second position, sold roughly 580,000 units in India in Q2 2020. That’s a major drop from 1,555,000 units sold last year in the same quarter (-62.7% YoY).

Asus, however, was the only brand that saw growth in all the sectors. It achieved 5.1% market share, up from 2% in the same quarter last year. It also saw YoY growth of 55.5%. As per IDC, this happened due to the company’s aggressive offline expansion.

“As most of the big orders for business continuity planning have been more or less executed in the quarter gone by, the PC market is now expected to face challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis and the looming economic situation. Enterprise buying will come back down to earth and SMB demand is expected to remain muted for some quarters,” said Jaipal Singh, Associate Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India. “When it comes to new growth opportunities, the demand for online learning is still largely untapped and encompasses huge potential. To unlock this big segment, brands would need to be more innovative in addressing the specific challenges related to eLearning. It would require cross-platform and learning ecosystem partnerships to onboard first-time users,” he adds.
