The Xiaomi 12 series is launching on December 28 and ahead of its launch, it is confirmed that two models will be made official. No names have been revealed yet but it seems we could be looking at the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro for now. This is in contrary to the three models the rumours suggested previously. The teaser also reveals the front design.
The teased designs reveal two phones with mega differences in their size. The Xiaomi 12 could be a compact model more akin to the Galaxy S21 whereas the Xiaomi 12 Pro could be the large 6.7-inch phone we usually see Xiaomi flagships to be. Sadly, these phones will continue with a punch-hole cutout for the front camera; no in-display camera tech here.
The Xiaomi 12 series models shown here seem to feature a curved edge display design – you can look at the slimmer than usual frame and the curvature of the display bezels. Sadly, we don't get to see how it looks from the back yet. Leaked renders, however, have shown an evolved design of the Xiaomi 11T Pro.
Along with teasers, Xiaomi has also shared details of the chipset of choice, which is the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. And as expected, Xiaomi shows some notable performance gains over the previous generation Snapdragon 888. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered Xiaomi 12 shows gains in CPU and GPU performance.
What remains to be seen is what else does the Xiaomi 12 offer as upgrades over the Xiaomi Mi 11 from last year. The focus is likely to remain on cameras as has been the case with new Xiaomi phones. Xiaomi could also upgrade the charging speeds as well as the battery capacity.
Rumours have, however, pointed out at a Xiaomi 12X and a Xiaomi 12 Ultra already in the works. The Xiaomi 12X could be a continuation of the Xiaomi Mi 11X that launched in India in 2021. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra could carry on from where the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra left, armed with better cameras and possibly a superior display.
