iPhone 11 was the best-selling smartphone in Q3 2020: Canalys

Apple’s iPhone 11 is once again the most popular smartphone globally. According to the latest data from Canalys, iPhone 11 was the best-selling smartphone in Q3, and by a big margin. The second-best selling phone was also an iPhone, and it was the low-cost iPhone SE.

Apple sold 16 million units of iPhone 11 the previous quarter. In total, Apple shipped 43.2 million iPhones globally. iPhone 11 continues to maintain its streak as it made up around 40% of Apple’s global shipments in Q2 according to Canalys. iPhone 11 was also the most shipped smartphone in the first half of 2020, according to a report by Omdia.

Apple launched iPhone 11 alongside iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max last year. Prices of older iPhones including iPhone 11 reduced as the new iPhone 12 series debuted. iPhone 11 was a popular option during the festive sales in India. Apple’s new iPhone lineup was delayed this year with sales having started only recently. There are four iPhone 12 models starting at ₹69,900.

iPhone SE which launched earlier this year bagged the second spot with a little over 10 million units shipped. Samsung occupied the majority of the top ten smartphones with Galaxy A21s almost at par with iPhone SE. Just below Galaxy A21s is Galaxy A11 followed by Galaxy A51. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9, Redmi 9 and Redmi 9A followed with around 6-8 million units shipped for each model.

Overall, Samsung shipped the most number of smartphones globally in Q3 to take the top spot from Huawei. Xiaomi ranked third followed by Apple, Vivo, Oppo, Realme and Lenovo.
