MIUI 13 features LEAK! Small widgets, Sidebar, and more

MIUI 13 is expected to come out soon and while Xiaomi is yet to reveal anything officially but leaks have revealed a few features from the upcoming Android update for Xiaomi phones. Expected to be unveiled on December 28 alongside the Xiaomi 12 series flagships, the MIUI 13 update will bring visual overhaul and some new features. Today's leak gives us a sneak peak.

A report from Xiaomi UI has revealed some marketing videos that have been dug out from several Xiaomi apps. The feedback app on MIUI has thrown up the MIUI 13 logo, which look vastly different from the MIUI 12 logo and gives us a hint of the overall design language on the new version of the OS. Does the new typography suggest a new MIUI font?

MIUI 13 leaked features

Alongside the MIUI 13 logo, the apps have also show some tutorial videos revealing a few new features. Small Widgets is a new addition in MIUI 13; something that was previously visible in the MIUI 12.5 beta. These widgets are reminiscent of the ones from iOS 15 and make for more customized homescreens.

Sidebar is another feature coming to MIUI 13. This isn't a new feature for an Android phone since most other smartphones using a custom Android skin have their own versions of a quick access bar that holds shortcuts and favourite apps. The video shows the Sidebar making it easy to open apps in floating windows mode.

Lastly, Infinity Scroll brings back infinite scrolling to homescreens of MIUI 13. Again, this is a feature that Android phones have had for a long time but has disappeared in the recent years.

From the looks of it, it seems that MIUI 13 will largely remain similar to the latter versions of MIUI 12 and we expect to see minor design tweaks. The focus seems to be on multitasking with these leaked features, altohugh Xiaomi could be hiding something big for the December 28 launch event.
