Redmi 9A vs Redmi 9: Budget smartphones compared

Xiaomi launched a bunch of new smartphones in India recently. Most of the smartphones cater to the budget segment. The new additions were in the Redmi 9 series with four new phones. These include the Redmi 9, Redmi 9A, Redmi 9i and Redmi 9 Prime.

All these Redmi 9 smartphones are priced within ₹10,000. We take a look at the Redmi 9A which is the most affordable in the series, and the Redmi 9 which offers better specs and has a higher price tag too. So here’s a comparison between Redmi 9 and Redmi 9A.

Design, display

From the front both phones look similar with the water drop-style notch on top. There are some differences at the rear. The Redmi 9A’s rear camera is placed vertically while the ones on the Redmi 9 are placed in a square-shaped design.

The Redmi 9 also has a textured back, and it comes in three colour options of orange, blue and black. Redmi 9A also has three colour options of green, black and green. On the Redmi 9A you get a 6.53-inch HD+ display which is the same on the Redmi 9 as well.

Performance

Redmi 9A is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G25 processor. It packs a 5,000mAh battery with 10W fast charging speed. Redmi 9A comes in two variants of 2GB+32GB and 3GB+32GB.

Redmi 9 has a faster processor which is the MediaTek Helio G35. It has the same battery as the Redmi 9A. The smartphone offers more RAM and storage in two variants of 4GB+64GB and 4GB+128GB.

Camera

Redmi 9A has a single 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture. For selfies, it sports a 5-megapixel front camera. Redmi 9 gets an additional 2-megapixel depth sensor on its dual-camera setup. It has the same 5-megapixel selfie camera.

Price

Redmi 9A starts at ₹6,799 for the base model. Its 3GB+32GB variant costs ₹7,499. Redmi 9 has a starting price of ₹8,999 and it goes up to ₹9,999 for the 4GB+64GB variant.

The major difference between the Redmi 9A and Redmi 9 would be in performance. Redmi 9 offers a faster chipset and more RAM as well. It also has an additional camera sensor.
