Redmi K40 Gaming Edition launched: Check specs, features, and price

Redmi has finally launched its first-ever gaming smartphone, Redmi K40 Gaming Edition. The phone will be available starting April 30 in China with price starting at CNY 1,999 ( ₹23,000 approximately) for the base model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The top-end model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage costs CNY 2,699 ( ₹31,000 approximately).

The handset also comes in 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB and 12GB+128GB combinations. Redmi has also launched a special Bruce Lee edition of the phone with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage.

Redmi K40 Gaming Edition comes with a 6.67-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with HDR 10+ support, 10-bit colours, DCI-P3 coverage, 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate.

As announced earlier, the latest gaming handset runs on MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 1200 processor coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of built-in storage. It packs a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. On the software front, it runs on Android 11 out-of-the-box.

Since it’s a gaming-focused phone, it comes with shoulder buttons that function as gaming triggers. The rim of the camera panel on the back also has pulsating ambient light that shows different colours for different notifications. The pulsating light also works with calls, messaging, and charging. The phone also comes with a mechanism. According to reports, the phone uses a combination of graphene, graphite and a vapour chamber for this purpose.

“Multi-stacked graphite layers combined with super-large vapour chambers cover all the major components of the device, enabling strong gaming performance. The cooling system also adopts a new aerospace-grade heat dissipation material with a built-in “white graphene” layer, which not only efficiently dissipates heat for the charging chip but also offers good insulation to reduce its impact on nearby antennas,” says Xiaomi in a blog post.

In the camera department, Redmi K40 Gaming Edition comes with a triple rear camera setup. It consists of a 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front, it houses a 16-megapixel selfie camera.

Other features of the phone are a side-mounted fingerprint reader, X-axis linear vibration motor, VC LiquidCool technology + white graphene, Dual 5G standby, Dual stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, JBL certification, and Wi-Fi 6.

Redmi K40 Gaming Edition comes in black, silver, and white colour options. As of now, there’s no word on when the phone will release in other markets like India.
