Some Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro users have complained that the camera module on their units has gathered dust particles, making the rear camera pretty much useless.
Mi Forum is flooded with such posts where users have shared their ordeal and even shared live photos of the dust sitting on the camera. So far, Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro units seem to have been largely affected. Some Redmi Note 9 Pro Max users have also complained about facing such issues.
Notebookcheck.net in its report pointed out that Xiaomi is aware of the issue as well. Alvin Tse, General Manager of Xiaomi Indonesia, had confirmed a few months ago receiving such complaints from users. Tse had also promised to improve the quality control to avoid such cases. He further requested customers to get the units fixed at Xiaomi’s service centres.
According to a piunikaweb.com report, the number of such complaints has only increased over a period of time.
That said, it’s a rare quality slip up from Xiaomi, especially for their flagship budget phones. In India as well, Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9 series is among the most popular budget and mid-range smartphones. Another key thing to note is that the quality issue is related to the hardware which is far more difficult to fix for users.
