Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 9 smartphone in India today. This is the third phone from the series after the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max that were launched in India this March.
Redmi Note 9 is the most affordable in the series with a starting price of ₹11,999. It comes in two more storage variants. The smartphone looks almost the same as its Redmi Note 9 Pro siblings. All three phones are also priced within ₹20,000. So what exactly is different among the three phones? We find out in this comparison.
Design
All three phones in the Redmi Note 9 series feature a punch-hole camera on the display. It’s only on the Redmi Note 9 that you’ll find it on the side. Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max have the punch-hole camera at the centre. The rear cameras module is also the same with all four sensors stacked in the middle. The Redmi note 9 however has slightly smaller camera sensors.
Redmi Note 9 comes in three colour options of green, blue and white. On the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, the blue colour is replaced by grey variants. The Redmi Note 9 has a 6.53-inch FHD+ display which is slightly smaller than the 6.67-inch FHD+ display on the Pro and Pro Max models.
Performance
Powering the Redmi Note 9 is MediaTek’s Helio G85 processor with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max both run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720Gchipset. One difference here is that the Redmi Note 9 Pro has 6GB of RAM, while the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max offers 8GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 720G SoC outperforms the Helio G85 in terms of specs.
All three phones in the series pack the same 5,020mAh battery. The difference here is in the fast charging speed. The Redmi Note 9 supports 22.5W while the Note 9 Pro interestingly supports 18W fast charging. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max offers the fastest charging speed of 33W among the three.
Camera
This could be a deal breaker for users. There are four rear cameras on the Redmi Note 9 series. On the Redmi Note 9, you get a 48-megapixel primary sensor, 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens, 2-megapixel macro lens and 2-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, there’s a 13-megapixel camera.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro’s quad-camera setup is almost the same as the Redmi Note 9 except that it has a 5-megapixel macro lens. The selfie camera is also better with a 16-megapixel sensor.
Redmi Note 9 Pro Max offers a combination of 64-megapixel primary sensor, 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, 5-megapixel macro sensor and 2-megapixel depth sensor. It has a 32-megapixel camera for selfies.
