Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 to feature an under-display camera

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to feature an under-display camera. This would make the Galaxy Z Fold 3 the first Samsung phone to come with this technology. There have been rumours of an under-display camera debuting on the Galaxy S21 but a recent report suggested Samsung has decided not to go with it.

On the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Samsung will be using a “special display design” that will widen the pixels over the camera sensor, according to a report by ETNews. This will allow more light to get through and thus result in better photos. Cameras placed under the display tend to face issues of light being blocked due to the screen on top. But Samsung will reportedly focus on that for the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in the third quarter of 2021. Galaxy Z Fold 3 won’t be the first smartphone with an under-display camera. There’s the ZTE Axon 20 5G and Vivo Apex 2020 with under-display cameras. Xiaomi has also shown off its under-display camera tech. Samsung is expected to offer an improved and more refined under-display camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 is also rumoured to come with S Pen support, another first for the foldable phone. There are speculations that Samsung is killing the Note series, and will now focus on the Galaxy S series and Galaxy Fold/Flip. It will keep the S Pen but transfer it to the Galaxy S21 Ultra and possibly the Galaxy Z Fold 3 as well. Samsung is reportedly planning to launch Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold FE next year.
