Xiaomi 12 tipped to get Snapdragon 898, 50MP camera and more

Qualcomm will formally announce its newest flagship chipset -- Snapdragon 898 -- at its annual event later this month. Ahead of the formal launch of the Snapdragon 888 successor, reports have already hinted toward Xiaomi and Motorola being the first in line to launch Snapdragon 898-powered smartphones in the market. Now, a new report has shared details about Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone that is likely to be the one with Snapdragon 898.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station (via GSM Arena), the vanilla model of Xiaomi 12 will feature support for 100W fast charging technology, which is unlike 120W fast charging technology that Xiaomi included in Mi 10 Ultra and Mi 11T Pro among others. The base variant of the series, that is the Xiaomi 12, is tipped to get a 50MP sensor along with an ultra-wide-angle sensor. However, it is likely to skip having a periscope lens. Additionally, the report says that the Xiaomi 12 will pack a large battery along with a slim body and a high screen-to-body ratio with a small punch hole for the front camera.

As far as the better Xiaomi 12 Pro is concerned, the tipster in the past has mentioned that the phone will get a triple 50 MP camera consisting of a wide-angle sensor, an ultra-wide-angle sensor and a telephoto lens. It remains to be seen if Xiaomi’s plans remain the same or they have changed since then.

Separately, word is that Xiaomi is not only planning to launch the Xiaomi 12 in China but also in the markets around the globe. The series that is expected to consist of two models -- the vanilla Xiaomi 12 and the smarter Xiaomi 12 Pro -- was recently spotted on the EEC certification site with model numbers 2201122G and 2201123G respectively. Additionally, the Xiaomi 12 with model number 2201122G was also spotted on BIS certification site, which indicates that the smartphone is also gearing up for launch in India.

On the feature front, the Xiaomi 12 is likely to feature a 2K screen with a 120Hz refresh rate that is coupled with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB storage. It is expected to run on Google’s Android 12 operating system with the company’s own MIUI skin on top.
