Xiaomi to launch budget Redmi 10 series in India soon, tweet suggests

A new smartphone series is likely to be unveiled by Xiaomi in India soon. The Chinese company has teased the launch of a new smartphone series. Xiaomi hasn’t explicitly mentioned which smartphone it will be but according to a tweet shared by its Redmi account, it is most like the Redmi 10 series. This will be a budget smartphone series by Xiaomi, and it will succeed the current Redmi 9 series that has the Redmi 9, Redmi 9 Prime, Redmi 9 Power, Redmi 9A and Redmi 9i.

Xiaomi’s teaser does suggest the Redmi 10 series will launch in India soon. Redmi India on Twitter shared a short video clip that says “Redmi Revolution”. The tweet also carried the hashtag 10on10 suggesting it is indeed the Redmi 10 series. Xiaomi has already launched the Redmi Note 10 series in India so now all that’s left is the budget Redmi 10 series to make its debut. It also launched the Redmi Note 10S in India last month. Other than the teaser, Xiaomi hasn’t revealed anything about the Redmi 10 series and there isn’t any information available either. But we can expect the smartphones to cost under ₹10,000 in India.

Xiaomi already has five smartphones under the Redmi 9 series. This includes the Redmi 9, Redmi 9 Prime, Redmi 9 Power, Redmi 9A and Redmi 9i. Out of these five smartphones, Redmi 9 Power is the most recent one which launched in India earlier this year. The other Redmi 9 series phones launched last year. As for the Redmi 9 Power, it starts at ₹10,999 for the base model with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

In terms of specs, Redmi 9 Power features a 6.53-inch full HD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Under the hood of the phone runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 662 processor paired with Adreno 610 GPU. It also has a microSD card slot for expandable storage up to 512GB. The smartphone has a quad-camera setup at the rear featuring a 48-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, a 2-megapixel macro sensor, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It sports an 8-megapixel front camera.

Redmi 9 Power packs a 6,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. Xiaomi is also shipping a 22.5W charger with the smartphone in India. On the software front, Redmi 9 Power runs MIUI 12 based on Android 10 out-of-the-box. Its connectivity options include dual 4G VoLTE, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.0, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone also has an IR blaster.
