In January, we reported that Samsung had rolled out the first firmware update to its brand new true wireless earphones - the Galaxy Buds Pro. Samsung had pushed out an update barely four days after launching at its virtual Unpacked 2021 event - it is now pushing the second firmware update to its ‘flagship’ earbuds.

The update, which is rolling out globally, bears the R190XXU0AUA5 tag and weighs in at 2.20 MB, appears to be exactly the same size as the last firmware update received a couple of weeks ago. According to Samsung’s changelog, the updated firmware should improve the device’s active noise cancelling function, which has already been described by experts as very effective in areas with low pitched and bass sounds.

The update notes also state that the firmware will improve the device switching speed when it is in ‘Voice detect’ mode. A new feature launched this year, the Galaxy Buds Pro earbuds are able to automatically detect when you are speaking to someone around you (including advanced detection of movement of your jaw) and then lower your media volume so you can continue your conversation.

The third improvement brought on by the firmware is to the earbuds’ Ambient sound function, which is a feature also found on the older Galaxy Buds Plus and the Galaxy Buds Live. Meanwhile, a Russian Galaxy Buds Pro user tweeted an image of the update screen (see below) and claimed “Samsung has made its best Galaxy Buds Pro wireless headphones even better”.

The Galaxy Buds Pro were released as a successor to the very capable Buds Plus, bringing new hardware and software features to the plate. The addition of active noise cancellation is the biggest change - the Galaxy Buds Live did have that function, but the Buds Pro are likely to be more effective due to the in-ear design and better sealing. The Buds Pro cost 15,990 and went on sale on January 29.
