Amkette has been around for decades. Over the years, the brand has diversified into multiple categories including wireless products and peripherals. It is also aiming at the multimedia (hardware) segment with its Evo-series. The latest offering in this series is Evo Fox Game Box for TVs.

What is Evo Fox Game Box?

It is essentially a gaming console with features like 4K Ultra HD support, plug and play, and access to OTT apps such as YouTube. The device also comes with the AirScreen app to allow your mirror cast content from your PC or phone.

What's the price and specifications?

Amkette's Evo Fox Game Box is available online for 8,999. The device runs on a quad-core A55 ARM processor. Apart from 4K video output, it supports 5.1 channel surround sounds as well as multiple video formats, including H.265. It also comes with 4GB of built-in storage and 32GB eMMC storage. There is also SD card support for additional storage.

Evo Fox Game Box features a dedicated Mali G31 graphics processor. On the software front, it runs on Android (v9 Pie). It also comes with 2 USB ports.

The box contains a controller (one), Air TV remote with mic, USB nano receiver, HDMI cable, power adapter, and quick start guide manual.

How is the experience?

Before we hold forth, do remember it is an under 10,000 device, nowhere close to consoles like PlayStation or Xboxes of the world. While setting it up on your TV is quite easy, the UI looks heavily customised and has a lot of room for improvement. At times, it took a lot of time to load. Browsing within the interface is also cumbersome.

The device comes with a bunch of pre-loaded games, which play fine on the TV. We did not come across any lag or stutter during our experience. The access to Google Play Store expands the coverage of games you can play on the device. For instance, Asphalt 8 looked pretty neat on the console. The controller is quite light and easy to get your muscle reflexes used to it.

Apart from gaming, the platform can be used for streaming. If you don't have a Chromecast or Fire TV stick, it can be an alternative. The platform gives access to apps like YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. Another advantage of using the device is adding on a web camera (via USB) to start using apps like Zoom and Google Duo.
