WhatsApp boasts end-to-end encryption feature and this keeps hackers mostly away. And the best part is that it is enabled by default and no matter what, it won’t be turned off. That means the security and privacy of your chats are virtually guaranteed. But that doesn't mean your WhatsApp account doesn't need any other security measures! It's always better to take extra steps to keep your WhatsApp experience more secure and safe. So if you are using WhatsApp, then there are some steps that you should take to protect your security and privacy in order to keep nasty surprises away. Let’s check with these simple 5 WhatsApp tricks to make your chatting experience safer. ## Tips to make WhatsApp more secure and safe ### Make sure to log out from WhatsApp Web Do you frequently use your WhatsApp on a desktop or laptop? Then make sure to log out of your WhatsApp web when it is not in use. Because leaving your laptop with your WhatsApp web open may expose your data to anyone who may use your device, this is especially true in an office. ### Make sure to enable Two-Step Verification The two-step verification option is in your WhatsApp settings, which is meant for your WhatsApp extra layer of security. This additional layer of security will keep the hackers away. To turn on the two-step verification, you will again need to go to your WhatsApp's Settings and then tap on Account. There you will find the two-step verification settings. Also read click here. ### Check for unknown links No matter which social media platform you are on, getting malicious links in this digital era is a big problem. Clicking on any unknown links may bring malware to your device. However, you can check about these unknown links which may be harmful to your system. You can verify by long pressing on the link, copying it and then pasting it on any of the famous malicious link-checking websites such as ScanURL, PhishTank, and more. ### Keep check on your profile picture Online fraudsters can find a lot of details about you with your profile picture. If your profile picture is what you use for your other social media apps such as Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, then it won't take time to find all information about you by taking a screenshot of your WhatsApp profile picture and reverse-searching the image to reach your other social media handles. But the solution is simple! All you need to do is to hide your profile picture from unsaved contact numbers. Just go to the WhatsApp settings, then move towards Privacy under accounts and click on Profile Photo. You will need to switch the option to ‘My contacts’. ### Lost your phone? Log out of your WhatsApp account this way Finding your lost phone can be difficult, but what is important is to te ensure your data is not accessible through your phone such as bank details, contacts, and WhatsApp. To ensure your data privacy on WhatsApp, do remember to log out. For that, you will need to get a duplicate SIM card and insert it in another phone. And then download WhatsApp on a new device and log in via OTP. Once you access WhatsApp on this new smartphone, the lost phone will automatically lose access to it.
